Baby L’s Fresh 48 Session | CT Newborn Photographer

Today’s post is from one of my new favorite type of sessions, and family’s … Fresh 48 Sessions!   For those who don’t know, or haven’t heard about these types of sessions, these are sessions done in the hospital within the first 48 hours after the arrival of your beautiful baby.  They are a wonderful way to capture the family with the new baby in a natural setting.

This is the Hammond/D’Alessandro family and that little bundle of cuteness is Baby Luca!  I arrived at Lawrence & Memorial hospital the morning after he made his entrance into the world and fell in love with him the minute I held him (as I do with all the babies I work with).  He was perfect in every single way.  I think it’s safe to say that Mom, Dad, and big brother Owen were smitten with him too… what do you think??

Fall Engagement Session | Liz & Shawn

We meet again, wonderful blog readers!

I’ve been quite a busy bee lately so I haven’t been blogging much.  The first post is a fun couple that I photographed last fall at Gillette Castle State Park.  Feast your eye’s on Liz & Shawn’s engagement session! These two are real naturals in front of the camera. Their good looks, fabulous outfit choices, a sublime location and their genuine love for each other made this photo shoot a breeze.  Stay tuned to see the photos from their September wedding at Wrights Mill Farm.  Spoiler Alert… It was A-Mazing!!

CT Wedding Photographer | James & Kim | Saybrook Point Inn Wedding, Old Saybrook CT

What a great day we had for the intimate celebration of James & Kim at The Saybrook Point Inn in Old Saybrook, CT!

When I first arrived at the venue, I found James talking with friends and family and anxiously awaiting the moment he could finally see his bride.  Kim was in the room getting ready and sneaking peaks out of the window while she watched everyone arrive.  The weather cooperated and the wedding went perfectly!  Once the ceremony was complete, we were able to use the venue to get the best photos possible of the couple’s special day.  The details were perfect! The reception was beautiful! The cake & food was delicious!  Everything was just the way they had planned it to be.   Congratulations James & Kim!

What to wear for Your Engagement Photos | CT Engagement Photographer

Today’s blog post is on a subject I get asked about most often when planning an engagement session… WARDROBE!  There are many options when it comes to deciding what to wear in your photos but don’t be overwhelmed by them, because I am here to help you!  Your engagement session will allow for at least one outfit change so it is good to bring along an additional outfit so we can get a variety of different looks for you. I suggest the following:

•    Bring a ‘Dressy’ Outfit
It’s not every day you get to get all dressed up with your sweetheart and take photos together. Use this session as an excuse to really go all out and get fancied up! I’m not saying you have to wear a gown and tux (unless you want to), but maybe a dress or skirt for you, and a suit or nice slacks and a button up shirt for your fiancé. This outfit will be great for save the date cards, or the announcement in your local newspaper.

•    Go Casual
I also suggest you bring a more casual outfit. This outfit is ideal for your more fun, relaxed photos. Tailored jeans and a nice shirt are always a great choice, especially if we are going to be walking around in nature a lot. Make sure to bring shoes specifically for this outfit, too.

•    Coordination is Key
An important thing to remember is to coordinate. You don’t want to be matchy-matchy, but you want to coordinate. Choose similar colors and styles that photograph well together. For example, you don’t want to wear jeans if your fiancé is wearing a suit and tie in the same photo.  Also remember to dress for the location. For example, if you are doing a natural, rustic or vintage session, you’ll want to stay away from bright colors and opt for neutrals instead.

•    Things to Avoid
– Logos, unless we’re doing a sports session and you’re wearing jerseys, etc.
– Patterns – Try to stick with solid colors or minimal patterns. Plaid shirts are fine as long as your fiancé isn’t wearing stripes or polka dots. It’s a good rule of thumb to only have one partner wearing a pattern at a time.
– Fluorescent colors – These don’t photograph well and also can cast bright color tones on your skin.

The single most important thing to remember when choosing what to wear for your photos is to wear what is comfortable!  I am happy to offer guidance when deciding what to wear so don’t hesitate to ask!!  A blog post about Styling your session will be coming soon so STAY TUNED!!

CT Wedding Photographer | Emily & Allen | Lake of Isles Wedding

Last year I had the pleasure of shooting alongside one of my great photographer friends at this amazing wedding.  The couple had a traditional Catholic ceremony at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick in Norwich, CT.  I LOVED everything about that church! The architecture inside was indescribable… to say it was gorgeous would not even come close to it.  After the ceremony, we traveled to North Stonington, CT for their reception at Lake of Isles Golf Club & Resort.  It was my first time shooting an event at that venue but I can’t wait to go back for more!  These two are one of the funniest couples I have had the pleasure of working with.  You will see in their photos that they were definitely not afraid to cut loose and have a great time celebrating their love for each other!  Take a look for yourself and you will see what I mean.
