Bringing a baby into the world is a wonderful life event that should be captured. It’s a time you are going to want to remember and share with your little one once they are a bit older. If you are thinking about or have recently booked a maternity photo session then the below tips should come in handy as your prepare for your session.
Schedule your session between 31 and 36 weeks as your tummy should have popped and have a beautiful shape. By booking your maternity session during this time you are also past the discomfort and bloating that happens earlier in the pregnancy.
Consider including family members. Often times, the other children will be excited about soon having a new brother or sister. Including them in the session will make this time in their lives even more special.
Treat yourself to a neutral or light colored manicure 1 – 2 days prior to your maternity session so that you can take some beautiful shots with your hands on your tummy.
If you already have some cute baby items such as shoes, hats, toys, blankets or onesies, bring them along as they make for adorable props. The same applies to family heirlooms. If you have a special locket or photo that you would like to use, bring it along too.
Be Creative. One of the wonderful things about maternity photos is that you have the ability to be creative when it comes to session location. Classic studio maternity photos will always be popular, but there are so many other location options available like:
Beach Sessions for a summer baby
Nature Photos for those who love the great outdoors
Baseball or Football photos for those sports enthusiasts
Christmas Tree Farm for winter babies and Christmas card photos
The options really are endless. Scheduling your session during “golden hour” will also give you that gorgeous natural light and show off your glow.
Another way to be creative with your session is with your wardrobe. Our studio offers a selection of dresses to wear – but if dresses aren’t your style, you certainly don’t have to go that direction. Take the time to pick the right outfit for the maternity session. You should of course be comfortable but make sure that your clothing doesn’t detract from your tummy’s shape and your natural glow. Empire waists, drawstrings, flowing tops and wrap dresses are perfect for enhancing your shape.
The last but most important tip is for you to have fun and be you. Whatever feel you are going for, get yourself in the mood for your session. This is a special time for you and we’ll create some beautiful memories. Get as comfortable as possible and be sure to enjoy yourself. Don’t be afraid to show off your personality!

Hey y’all! Remember the post with Lena & Dan’s engagement session at Gillette’s Castle? If you missed it, you can see it here.
Lena & Dan had their wedding in October at The Grand Lodge at Maneely’s in South Windsor, CT. It was a perfect fall day! Lena made all the bouquets and boutanniers out of pages from Harry Potter books. Every detail of their day from the vintage teacup centerpieces to the card catalog which held the seating arrangements was all about them and that made them perfect. I could go on and on about all the things I loved from their wedding but I’ll just let you take a look for yourselves.
Back in June, I met Amanda. We planned a maternity session for her at Rocky Neck State Park in Niantic, CT. Amanda is super sweet and was so easy going during her session. I can not believe I am writing this, but this soon-to-be momma was waiting on baby #7 to arrive. That’s right, SEVEN!
Here are just a few of my favorites from her session. If you or someone you know are expecting, click the “contact me” tab and lets chat!
This wedding will forever be one of my favorites. The flower girl and ring bearer have been in front of my camera since they were born, LITERALLY! Along with that, every detail from Sara & Peters wedding was perfect,
I got the chance to meet Sara & Peter for their engagement session at Lavender Pond Farm. They were so laid back and we had so much fun. Instead of having a first look with Peter, she opted to have one with her dad. I love seeing the joy in a fathers eyes when he sees his little girl in her wedding dress for the first time. Sara and Peter chose Fantasia in North Haven as their wedding venue and the intimate garden was the perfect setting for their ceremony.
After the ceremony they spent some more time in the garden for their photos before going into the ballroom for their reception. This fun loving couple brought along some fun blow up props and things for their reception as well. It was so much fun, but you don’t have to take my word for it… see for yourself!
